Usman was arrested last Friday by policemen attached to the Isolo division on Ire Akari Estate in the Isolo area of Lagos. He allegedly stole the key to the SUV from his boss and thereafter invited two robbery suspects – Abubakar Garba and Chika Asogwa – to escape with the car.
The suspects had also been arrested by the police. A source at the Isolo division told The Punch that the suspects were apprehended by the police while trying to sell the vehicle for N2m.
He said, “Usman and his boss lived in the Ikoyi area, where the boss also has a car store. The guard sometime last week stole the key of the car. He then invited the two suspects to drive it away, sell for an agreed price and bring his share.
“On Thursday, we arrested Asogwa, while he and Garba were attempting to sell the vehicle for N2m instead of the N6m market value; that was what raised suspicion. Usman was also there. The suspects had put a fake number plate, AGL 943 DP, on the vehicle.”
Lagos Police PRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest.
She said, “Apart from the three, one Chike Umeh and Ekene Eze, who received the stolen vehicle and helped in scouting for buyers, were also arrested by the police. The five suspects are undergoing interrogation at the division. They will soon be charged to court.”
