Immigration Authorities lauded for Re-absorption of Candidates

The Board and Management of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has been lauded for the proper screening, restoration and re-absorption of 888 candidates out of the illegally recruited 2000 personnel by the last administration who were later relieved of their appointments.

Making this commendation in Abuja recently, the National Co-ordinator of Media Framework for Politics and Good Governance (MEFPOG), Ambrose Yunusa Sule disclosed to journalists that the recent screening of affected candidates was diligently, transparently and thoroughly carried out by the Board and Management of the Service and the selection of the 888 successful candidates followed due process, merit and Federal character guidelines.

MEFPOG has gone through the processes and the outcomes of this recruitment and is pleased that the professional and patriotic manner it was done has re-polished the past recruitment image of the Service, Sule emphasized.

Going down memory lane, Mr. Sule Narrated that 2000 candidates were half-hazardly recruited during the twilight of the last administration and were later relieved of their appointments on discovery of their lapses. The 2000 candidates overheated the polity with agitations for re-instatement before Federal Government magnanimously considered to reinstate them based on fresh screening. During the fresh screening, 1,470 applicants turned up and 888 of them were considered qualified.

The Media Chieftain congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to take their jobs seriously and key into the changes, reforms and modernization of the Service by the current Management.

Sule further expressed satisfaction that the entire episode signals end to impunities in recruitment into Government Service and urged Government organizations to always adhere strictly to due process in recruitment matters the way Immigration currently did.

According to Sule, “President Buhari should be commended for approving the re-absorption of the affected candidates based on fresh screening while the Board and Management did an excellent job in promoting merit and geo-political balance in the entire recruitment”.
