The Kids in the Hall: An Oral History

The Kids in the Hall are Canada's greatest national export.

Comprised of Scott Thompson, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, and Mark McKinney, they were a comedy troupe that started out playing some pretty rough clubs in Toronto before going on to carry their own half-hour weekly TV show with the CBC. Often surreal and always funny, it was one of the few television shows made by Canadians, for Canadians, that had enough mainstream appeal for it to carry over to HBO and later, CBS. When I was a young teen growing up in the 1990s, I used to stay up wicked late, with the volume down on the TV in my bedroom, to watch them. I'd wind up dragging my ass to school the next day, but it always felt like it was worth it.

In this 38-minute documentary, the Kids talk about their early years, bleeding, swearing and walking around some formerly ugly areas of Toronto with Scott Thompson on a leash.  If you're a fan of their work, it's worth taking the time to watch.
